Register to Vote

Registration is now online and you may register to vote in person on election day, the 3rd of November, 2020. To be eligible to register to vote in Newington, Connecticut, you must be:

  • a U.S. citizen
  • A resident of the town of Newington
  • At least 18 years old by Election Day

Those registering to vote in person are required to show identification. Acceptable forms of identification include anything with a name and address: A Connecticut driver’s license, a utility bill, or even a checkbook. Those who register by mail must provide their Connecticut driver’s license or the last four digits of their Social Security number on the voter registration form, which will be confirmed by the state’s centralized voter registration system. This will avoid additional ID requirements for first-time voters in federal elections. First-time voters who register by mail in a federal election are subject to additional requirements.

Alternatively, you may bring in the form by Monday, October 26th to the Registrar of Voters at the Newington Town Hall. If you bring it in on election day, you will be presented with an absentee ballot with which to vote at the Town Hall. Thereafter, every time you vote, you will need to vote in your regular polling place.

If you will be away on election day

Simply fill out an Application for an Absentee Ballot. Applications for Absentee Ballots are accepted up until noon on October 31, 2020 at the Newington Town Clerk’s office. Your absentee ballot must arrive at the Town Clerk’s office before the close of the polls on election day.
